Choose dimensions before reducing quality
A photo displayed at 800 pixels wide usually does not need a 6000-pixel-wide export. Start with your display size; allow additional pixels when a high-density screen or a zoom feature needs them. Keep the original photograph separately for printing or future editing.
Inspect the details that matter in a photograph
Look at hair, foliage, fabric, text and smooth skies when judging compression. Smaller dimensions and lower quality can reduce file size, but the best setting depends on the image. An already efficient source can produce a larger WebP; the comparison shows the actual result.
Convert JPEG or PNG to WebP
Choose a JPEG photo or PNG image, keep the original dimensions or resize, then generate a WebP. JPEG-to-WebP conversion re-encodes the picture; it does not recover detail already lost in the JPEG. Transparent PNG areas can remain transparent in WebP. Inspect small text and sharp edges as well as photographs, and keep the source if you need a lossless archive.
WebP output and browser support
This tool exports WebP, including transparency when the source and browser support it. It does not export JPEG or PNG. Animated images are flattened to a still image, and RAW camera files require a separate conversion first. HEIC input depends on your browser's decoding support.

Common questions
Will this change my original photo?
No. The tool generates a separate WebP. Your original file on your device stays unchanged.
Can I compress an image to an exact number of kilobytes?
There is no exact file-size target. Adjust dimensions and quality, generate again, and use the measured file size to reach your limit.
Does optimization remove metadata?
The browser creates a new image from decoded pixels rather than copying the original file. Do not use the result as an archive of camera metadata, embedded profiles, or editing history.
Is it free and private to use?
You can process and download files for free without an account. The browser may download processing software, but your source media stays on your device. Only choosing Host on FooPixel uploads the generated output, which becomes publicly accessible after validation.
