How to use video thumbnail generator
- Select an MP4. The image tab opens by default.
- Scrub to the frame you want. Choose a width, or use custom dimensions for your thumbnail.
- Generate the WebP image. Check it at the size it will be displayed, then download or host it.
Choose a frame that works at thumbnail size
A frame that looks interesting full-screen can become unclear when small. Look for a distinct subject and a simple composition. Avoid motion blur, closed eyes, opening fades and frames where text is half-visible.
Use the thumbnail as a video poster
A poster provides a useful first view before someone presses play. Match its shape to the player to avoid unexpected cropping. If the thumbnail opens a gallery item, give the surrounding link a clear name and choose alt text appropriate to the image's role.
When a screenshot is not enough
A browser screenshot can include player controls or a scaled view of the video. This tool captures the decoded video frame at your chosen output dimensions. It does not add title text, remove objects or generate a new scene.

Common questions
What image format do I get?
The output is WebP. It is a still frame, not a JPEG, PNG, contact sheet or animated preview.
Can I extract every frame?
This tool exports one selected frame at a time. It is not a batch frame extractor.
Will it improve a blurry source frame?
No. Choose a sharper moment when possible. Increasing the export dimensions cannot restore detail missing from the source.
Is it free and private to use?
You can process and download files for free without an account. The browser may download processing software, but your source media stays on your device. Only choosing Host on FooPixel uploads the generated output, which becomes publicly accessible after validation.
